Man remanded in custody for fraud

Twifo Praso (C/R), June 23, GNA – Kobina Antwi was on Tuesday remanded by the Praso magistrate court for allegedly defrauding one Madam Ekua Ayisha, a trader, of goods worth 37 million cedis. Antwi pleaded guilty but explained that he only took goods worth 11 million cedis and not 37 million cedis as claimed by Madam Ayisha He would reappear on July 5.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Henry Tanor told the court that on March 03, Antwi introduced himself to Madam Ayisha as a teacher and collected sugar and gari worth 37 million cedis from her under the pretext of sending the goods to his school and to make payment later. Madam Ayisha waited for a long time without Antwi showing up so she reported the matter to the police who arrested Antwi at Assin Bereku, his hometown.
