Man remanded for allegedly robbing an internet cafe

Isaac Amoako, an acrobat, who allegedly robbed an internet café with eight armed men now at large, on Friday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Amoako and his accomplices succeeded in bolting away with a laptop computer, three mobile phones and cash of 490 Ghana cedis after attacking Dasty Internet café with cutlasses and other implements at Kansehie First Light.

He pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and two counts of robbery.

The court, presided over by Mr. Francis Obiri, remanded Amoako into police custody to re-appear on August 20.

Deputy Superintendent of Police ( DSP) P.A. Morkeh, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant was Nana Oduro Nketiah, an internet café attendant, who resides at Asamaa and the accused at Mataheko all in Accra.

He said on July 26, this year, at about 11:00 pm, while the complainant was at the café together with six other customers, eight men including Amoako, armed with cutlasses and broken bottles entered the place and ordered them to surrender their mobile phones and monies.

DSP Morkeh said three of the armed men stood at the entrance whiles the rest including Amoako searched and seized three mobile phones and 400 Ghana cedis from them.

In addition, he stole the complainant’s cash of 90 Ghana cedis from his drawer and an HP Laptop belonging to one Prince Sackey which was with him.

The prosecution said one of the customers who failed to yield to the demands of the robbers was hit in the head with a bottle.

He said after the robbers had collected various sums of money and items, they bolted and the complainant reported the incident to the police.

He said on July 27, this year, Sackey had information that Amoako and his accomplices who raided the internet café had in his possession his laptop, and caused his arrest.

Amoako’s accomplice called Sackey to come for his laptop in a wooden structure where the accused was arrested, and when the place was searched the police retrieved the laptop, two DVD players, five plastic chairs and a Latex Foam mattress suspected to have been stolen.

DSP Morkeh said the police were making frantic efforts to apprehend the rest of the gang.**
