Cape Coast, April 17, GNA- Paul Mensah, alias Kobina, a 25-year-old labourer at Essuekyir, a suburb of Cape Coast was on Wednesday remanded in custody by a Circuit Court in Cape Coast for allegedly assaulting one Peter Baidoo, a hawker. Mensah pleaded not guilty and is to reappear on Friday, April 18, 2008. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu that on March 9, 2008 at about 1000 hours, Baidoo was hawking from Essuekyir to Abura, another suburb of Cape Coast. He alleged that when Baidoo was crossing a bridge at Essuekyir, Mensah emerged from a bush nearby and continuously hit him with a club m until he fell to the ground unconscious. He said Baidoo sustained deep cuts above the eyes and the head with bruises all over his body.
Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo alleged that Mensah then dragged Baidoo into the bush with the intention of hiding his body, but a ‘good Samaritan’ appeared on the scene and Mensah took to his heels. Baidoo was taken to the Hospital and the matter reported to the police and Mensah was arrested during investigations.
