Kumasi, April 27, GNA- A circuit court in Kumasi has remanded a man who claimed to be a medical doctor for Newmont Mining Company, for defrauding a kumasi-based businessman of 90.2 million cedis. The suspect, Bawa Sakodia, 38, pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on May 14.
Police Inspector Francis K. Kusi told the court presided over by Mr R.M. Kugyapwah that sometime in March last year the accused went to the shop of the wife of the complainant, Collins Amponsah Yeboah, at Adum in Kumasi.
Inspector Kusi said the suspect requested for quantity of rice for the staff Newmont Mining Company at Kenyase in the Brong-Ahafo for the Easter celebrations from Yeboah’s wife. He said Sakodia, who identified himself as a medical doctor with the company was given rice, which amounted to 90.2 million cedis. Inspector Kusi said the accused sent a cheque for 90.2 million cedis to the complainants=3D’s wife to be cashed at the Cal Bank in Kumasi but the cheque bounced. The accused went into hiding and the complainant made report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of at the Police in Kumasi. 27 April 07
