Isaac Ansah, a-32-year-old farmer, has been arrested for shooting his wife to death last Thursday at Kukua, a village near Suhum, in the Eastern Region.
Married for about 10 years, he is alleged to have shot his wife, Adwoa Ansah, 28, at point blank, with a short gun, killing her instantly.
According to the Suhum Police, Adwoa was said to have gone to the husband to collect housekeeping money for the upkeep of their two children, aged five and three respectively, when she was murdered.
Speaking to the Times, the Suhum Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DSP) Anane Appiah stated that Adwoa had travelled from a nearby town called Akorabo to Kukua at about 6:30pm with the sole purpose of collecting the house-keeping money from her husband.
He said on arrival, the couple engaged in a lengthy conversation in the presence of Ansah’s first wife until about 8:30pm, when Adwoa asked permission to leave.
According to the police, the husband obliged and decided to see her off, but when the two got to the outskirt of the village, the suspect was said to have asked the victim to wait for him, under the pretex of fetching something from his room.
The police said on his return and unprovoked, Ansah pointed the gun at Adwoa’s abdomen and shot her, killing her instantly.
The police had a hint and quickly rushed to the scene, retrieved to the gun and arrested the suspect.
After his arrest, Ansah pleaded with the police saying that his action was due to the fact that he was drunk.
“I bear my wife no grudge and have no problem with her,” he was quoted to have said.
