Man jailed for possessing narcotics

Kwasi Kwarteng, a 30-year-old unemployed man was on Friday jailed five years by a Cape Coast circuit court for possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Chief Inspector Francis Kingsford Ockom told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Nyarko that on April 25, 2011, Kwarteng was arrested and sent to the Twifo Praso police station for allegedly stealing plantain.

The court heard that whiles at the station, a search was conducted on the convict and three wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found on him.

Chief Inspector Ockom said Kwarteng claimed ownership of the stuff but declined to name the supplier.
