Man in trouble for ‘using police’ to settle scores

A Takoradi Magistrate’s Court has remanded Kwame Yeboah, 28, a chainsaw operator, charged with deceit of public officer, into custody.

He would reappear in court on September 16 for further hearing.

The Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, told the Ghana News Agency that the accused was a resident of Sowodadiem Nyamebekyere, near Elubo in the Jomoro District, of the Western Region.

She said on September 7, at about 1000 hours, the accused went to the regional police headquarters in Sekondi and informed the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Alex Quainoo, that four armed men had arrived from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region and one Thomas Kwamina, aka Ozorka, was hosting them in his house at Sowodadiem.

She said the accused alleged that the armed robbers came with three pump action guns and one pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition.

He alleged that the armed men had targeted three areas at in the Elubo town for robbery.

Based on this information, she said, the Regional Police Commander deployed policemen from the Rapid Deployment Force to arrest the suspected armed robbers at Elubo.

The Police, consequently, arrested Pastor Thomas Kwamina but upon interrogation it was discovered that the accused had a personal problem with the pastor, who had even lodged a complaint with the Police for Yeboah’s arrest.

ASP Adiku said the Police were informed that the accused owed the pastor GH¢120 so he had seized Yeboah’s Samsung mobile phone, shirt and slippers.

ASP Adiku said, the accused, therefore, wanted to use the Police to execute his personal vendetta so he was apprehended and arraigned at a Takoradi Magistrate’s court presided over by Madam Christiana Eyia Donkor.
