Man in court for stealing pregnant sheep

Sekondi, March 11, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate Court on Friday, sentenced John Akugri, an unemployed to 15 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a pregnant sheep valued at 600,000 cedis. The accused, who pleaded guilty, would re-appear to answer another charge of possessing Indian hemp on March 24 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere said on February 6, this year, the accused saw a sheep belonging to Mikano Issifu at a refuse dump at Kweikuma near Takoradi.

He said the accused managed to tie the neck of the sheep with a rope and while he was pulling it away, some people in the neighbourhood confronted him.

Sergeant Okyere said the accused could not give tangible answers to questions put to him but drew a cutlass, threatening to harm anyone who attempted to take the sheep from him. He said the accused was overpowered and handed over to the Police and during a search, a quantity of Indian hemp was found on him.
