Man commits suicide after inflicting cutlass wounds on wife

A 49-year-old farmer, Kwesi Bukari from Ajumako-Kwanyako in the Central Region who inflicted severe cutlass wounds on his wife and fled has hanged himself to death.

The body of Bukari has since been buried after post-mortem.

The Ajumako Police told the Ghana News Agency that on May 2, this year, the wife of Bukari, Amba Kuwaah, 48 a mother of two was having her bath in a stream when the husband attacked her and inflicted cutlass wounds on the face, arm and thigh because of her threat of divorce.

Madam Amba Kuwaah was rushed to Breman-Asikuma Catholic Hospital and later referred to Cape Coast Central Hospital where she is responding to treatment.

The District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Seth Tay said this has been the second and similar incident in less than a year in the same town.

He appealed to parents of married couples, the family, churches, opinion leaders and chiefs to constitute what he termed “Marriage Guidance and Counseling Office” in towns within the district to periodically receive reports, complains and cases among couples for peaceful and amicable settlement.**
