Man arrested for attempted smuggling of cocaine

Accra, Feb. 2, GNA – A 36-year-old Ghanaian, Callous Debeto, has been arrested by security agents at the Kotoka International Airport for attempting to smuggle out of the country substance believed to be cocaine.

Debeto described by security sources as a frequent traveller was picked up at the last checkpoint before he was due to board a KLM flight on his way to Hamburg, Germany.

According to security sources he concealed the whitish substance weighing 15.5 grams in both sides of a briefcase he was carrying. The security sources said Debeto told interrogators that he was travelling to Germany to check on two vehicles he had shipped.

He said because the trip was for only a few days he decided not to travel with a heavy luggage and therefore bought the briefcase at the Danquah Circle, Osu, from roaming vendors.

Debeto said he did not know the briefcase contained the substance. Investigations into the case continue.
