Man, 53, jailed for defiling 12-year-old

Mpraeso (E/R), Jan. 29, GNA – The Circuit Court at Mpraeso has sentenced a 53-year-old farm labourer who defiled a 12-year-old JSS two girl to 12 years’ imprisonment.

Kofi Adjei pleaded guilty to defiling the girl.

Police Inspector Alex Gyamera Acheampong told the court that the victim lived with the mother at Asankasu, near Tease in the Afram Plains with the accused.

He said on September 15, 2002, the victim’s mother left her for farm and the accused took advantage of that and lied to the victim that her mother said she should accompany him to his farm to collect firewood.

The Prosecutor said the girl obliged and followed him to his farm and when she was about to collect the firewood, Adjei threw some substance, suspected to be a charm, at her and immediately she became dazed and unconscious.

He said the victim detected after regaining her consciousness that her pants had been removed and she was raped but the accused warned her not to tell anyone else she would be killed by juju.

Adjei also gave the girl some fowls to be given to her mother. Inspector Acheampong said some days later, the girl became sick and after examination, her mother detected some abrasions around her genitalia and when confronted she narrated what happened to her on Adjei’s farm.

A report was made to the police and the accused was arrested and charged with the offence. Passing sentence, the judge, Mr Kwabena Assuman-Adu, described the behaviour of the accused as “primitive and like an animal which indulges in sex anywhere and anyhow.”
