Man, 25 in trouble for assaulting chief

Twifo Praso (C/R), July 8, GNA – Stephen Prah, a 25-year-old man from Twifo Heman, who insulted and slapped Nana Akonfur Nuamah I, Chief of Wassa Akyiampim in the Western Region was on Wednesday remanded in prison custody for a week by the Twifo Praso District Magistrate Court at Praso.

Prah pleaded guilty to assault and asked for mercy, but the court deferred sentence to July 13.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector George Okine told the court presided over by Mr Joseph Blay that, on June 24 the accused, who was allegedly drunk picked up a quarrel with passengers he was travelling with from Atieku to Twifo Praso.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused insulted other passengers and misbehaved in the vehicle and when the chief, who was also on board the vehicle advised him to stop, Prah took offence called him “a foolish man” and later slapped him.

Chief Inspector Okine said the accused, who was later arrested by the police admitted the offence in his caution statement but gave the excuse that he was drunk and did not know what prompted him to misbehave towards the chief.
