Make Health Insurance poverty reduction programme

Saltpond (C/R), March 7, GNA – The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mfantseman District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme, Mr Frank Neequaye has appealed to the people to make the scheme a poverty reduction programme since it would enable them to have quality health care.

With good health they can undertake economic activities to increase their incomes, he said and appealed to chiefs, queen mothers, assembly members, unit committees and religious leaders to help in promoting the scheme among the people.

Mr Neequaye was commenting on a report by the Manager of the Scheme, Mr Godfred Arthur at the first meeting of the Board Saltpond. The Manager had expressed concern about the registration, which he said had been very slow with only 823 households so far registered. Mr Arthur attributed the situation to inadequate sensitisation, lack of logistics including vehicles and politicising the scheme.

Mrs Evelyn Nsiah of World Vision International, Ghana and a member of the Board pledged the support of the NGO in the educational exercise. Nana Attaapim Kwenu, Vice Chairman appealed to the Consultant to organise a workshop for the Board and the Management to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
