President John Dramani Mahama says government is committed to meeting the demands of Ghanaians but that will be done in a gradual process.
He, therefore, called for moderation in demands put on government.
“We all have demands on government but we have to be moderate in these demands in order that we do not disrupt the budget and government expenditure.”
President Mahama was speaking over the weekend during the 47th Maulid in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
He compared the distribution of the national cake to that of a family.
“As the head of your family, you cannot provide all that your family needs at once,” he analogized.
“Alhassan needs a shoe, Fuseini needs a bicycle, your wife needs a new cloth, and your mother needs a refrigerator. You cannot provide all these at once and so what you have to do is to prioritize.”
He, therefore, asked the various communities to exercise patience on government.
“The fact that government has not yet provided a certain development that was requested does not mean that government will not provide it.”
He said the energy crisis remains the most pressing engagement of government.
“I wish to assure you that government is working hard on this challenge and soon we will have some relief from the power shortage we are currently facing by the grace of God.”
