Madina Police arrests man with hidden dagger

Accra, July 22, GNA – A 38-year old driver, Masa Wudu Yahaya is in Police custody for orchestrating the mob attack of drivers at the Somanya Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) at Madina-Zongo Junction Lorry Station in Accra.

The suspect who is a member of the union was arrested by the Madina District Command.

The District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) David Eklu told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the culprit was arrested by the Police with a dagger concealed in his dress during the attack.

He said the Police are intensifying investigation into the incident to identify and bring to book the rest of the culprits who wounded three passengers and damaged a mini bus.

It would be recalled that during the early hours of Tuesday July 19, a mob numbering about 30 young men besieged the Somanya GPRTU station and attacked the drivers who were going about their normal duties.

CSP Eklu said investigations so far indicated that the attack was instigated by a faction of the GPRTU drivers at the Station over the administration of the lorry park.

Meanwhile the District Police Command had initiated discussions with the drivers unions to forestall future violence
