Long serving teachers honoured

Fijai (W/R), Oct. 12, GNA – The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis has given awards to 13 female teachers for their dedicated services that has led to the promotion of education in the metropolis. Mad Hope Anman-Mensah, the Headteacher of the Archbishop Porter kindergarten, was presented with a special award. The awards were presented to the teachers as part of the International Teachers’ day celebration on Monday.

Mr. Jerry Hanson, the Ahanta West District Director of Education, said though teachers faced many challenges including inadequate remuneration and poor housing, they should not give up but rather should be motivated to give off their best.

He said teachers needed to be abreast with the computer placement system in order to educate parents and pupils on how to choose their schools and to minimise the yearly criticism of the system. Mr. Hanson commended the Sekondi-Takoradi Directorate for producing three out of 10 teachers nationwide to receive awards at the national best teacher competition.
