Listen to people in academia – Frimpong Boateng tells Politicians

Renowned Ghanaian heart Surgeon, Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, has told politicians to listen to advice from academia.

“…I’ll entreat our people who matter, who take decisions, to listen to our people in the Universities,” he counseled.

He said: “Listen to what KNUST is saying. Listen to what AIT is saying. Listen to what people are saying in [the University of Ghana] Legon”.

According to him, ideas, proposals, suggestions and criticisms offered by people in academia at the Universities “…may be unpleasant, but it makes sense”.

The former Presidential Aspirant and Chief Executive Officer of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital offered the counsel when he delivered a commencement speech at the fifth graduation of the Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) in the capital on Saturday.

Some University Dons and Professors have had cause to shy away from commenting on national issues for fear of being politicised and literally ‘hanged’ for their views.

Prof. Frimpong Boateng said the ideas of people in academia must not be brushed aside by leaders of the country.
