The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, has called on Ghanaians to use their religions to promote peace and development in the country.
According to him, “Ghana is a highly religious country and each of the religion teaches us about peace, love and respect. It is therefore important to express love, peace and respect towards each other, irrespective of their religious inclination to facilitate national cohesion and development.”
He made these statements at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission’s 82nd Annual National Convention last Thursday at Pomadze in the Central Region.
Rev. Opuni-Frimpong noted that, as a people with diverse religious inclinations, we should be able to relate with each other freely without fear, and support one another in developing our dear nation.
“Since I came to this ground this morning, I know am a Christian, pastor and a minority in the midst of thousands of Muslims at this particular moment. However, I have interacted with most people here freely, and they have all shown me love, respect and supported me in finding my way around here easily. Now, I don’t feel like am a stranger, but I see myself as being in the midst of my fellow brothers and sisters” he revealed.
He said, Christians should be able to eat, share and relate with Muslims and people of other faiths freely, adding that, we must not allow religion to divide us but rather unite us in developing our country.
According to him, the various religious leaders in the country must show the way in facilitating religious harmonization by showing unity, respect and love for each other in public, and entreat their followers to emulate same.
“For the cause of humanity and peace, I urge all our religious leaders to stretch out their hands in friendship to one another and to all people, irrespective of their race or creed, with a genuine feeling of love and brotherliness–to work for a peaceful and developed Ghana” he emphasized.
Rev. Opuni-Frimpong further called on corporate organisations to support the various religious groups in the country in their efforts at promoting national cohesion and development.
In his opening address, the Ameer and Missionary-In-Charge of the Ahmidiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, Maulvi Dr. A. Wahab Adam entreated his followers to live a morally upright and eschew any attitude which contradicts the teaching of the Holy Quran.
According to him, moral uprightness is the foundation for socio-economic development and Ghanaians must stay away from actions that are immoral.
He further entreated his followers to support efforts at promoting morality and the development of the country.
