Let’s treat mental health with priority – Kweku Baako

The editor in-chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako, has described as insensitivity and a shame – the inability of government and institutions responsible for dealing with the current challenges facing the Accra Psychiatric Hospital to resolve issues.

Nurses at the facility have complained about the harsh and dangerous working environment they are exposed to and have since Monday laid down their tools and have threatened not to return until the needs of the hospital are met.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Joy FM news analysis programme Newsfile Saturday, Mr. Baako said mentally challenged persons must be seen and treated without discrimination hence mental healthcare must be treated with priority.

“We have to prioritize and be sensitive as human beings toward the mentally challenged. We see them on the streets and we don’t care and think they are not part of us. But we never can tell maybe some of us will end there sooner than later,” he said.
