Let’s make Ghana policy driven nation – Project Citizen

Ho, June 16, GNA – Mrs. Fanny Judith Kumah, Co-Director of Project Citizen, Ghana, has called on leaders of the country to ensure the formulation of policies that would put national interest above the concerns of individuals or groups.

He said that the nation could focus and be consistent in its development if activities of people were driven by good policies and the citizenry was involved in decision-making. Mrs. Kumah was speaking at a four-day Volta Regional Project Citizen showcase in Ho, for pupils and students. The project, under the auspices of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), seeks to groom pupils and students to identify and solve problems in their communities democratically. The event that is on the theme: “Consolidating Democracy through Youth participation”, was sponsored by the Hanns Seidel Stifftung and Promasidor Ghana Limited.

Mrs Kumah called on Ghanaians to actively participate in the country’s democratic process and not relapse into political inactivity after elections, saying “This way, we will be consolidating democracy”. She called on pupils and students to get involved in governance to prepare them for leadership. Mr. Fidelix Attoh, Volta Regional Director of the NCCE, said that the school is a microcosm of society and underscored the need for students to identify problems and propose solutions to make them part of the decision-making process. Mr Emmanuel Keteku, Ho Municipal Director of Education, in a speech read on his behalf, said democracy required equal participation of all the people in governance to the deepen values and democratic principles.
