Latter-Day Saints clean hospitals in W/R

More than 500 members of Takoradi Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, have undertaken a four-hour clean-up exercise in some health facilities in the Western Region.

They swept and scrubbed the floor of the maternity, antennal and hernia wards and weeded the surroundings of the Takoradi, Effia-Nkwanta and Ahmadyya Mission Hospitals, as part of the Church’s community and humanitarian services.

The project dubbed: “All Africa Helping Hands Service,” afforded the members to paint the Blood Bank block of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital and donated the tools and liquid soap used for the exercise to the beneficiary health facilities.

Mr Richard Osei, First Counsellor to the Takoradi Stake President of the church, told the media in Takoradi that, the humanitarian service project was being undertaken simultaneously in 30 countries in Africa, including Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, DR Congo, Togo, Liberia and South Africa.

He said more than 10,000 people across the continent including, members of the church, metropolitan, municipal district assemblies, voluntary clubs, and religious bodies were involved

“We are encouraged to carry out service project every year in partnership with various volunteer organisations because of the smiles we see on the faces of communities we work in,” he said.

According to him the relief expressed by recipients and messages of gratitude “encouraged us to do more, to follow the example of Jesus Christ”.

Mr Isaac Bossman, Head of Environmental Unit of Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, expressed appreciation to the church saying inadequate staff contributes to untidiness of the surroundings.

He said the intervention by the church was timely and assured that the surroundings would be ward-off reptiles and make the place safer and habitable for clients.

He entreated other churches and corporate bodies in the region to emulate the shining example of the church.
