Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has been named head coach of Uganda’s men’s junior national teams, marking a new chapter in his coaching career after leaving his role with the Black Starlets earlier this year.
The appointment was confirmed by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on Wednesday, October 8. Kingston has signed a two-year deal, which will see him oversee the development of the country’s U-17 and U-20 teams until 2027.
“FUFA CEO Edgar Watson has today unveiled Laryea Kingston as the head coach of all Uganda national men’s football junior teams for the next two years,” a statement from the federation read.
The former Black Stars winger, who holds a UEFA A and CAF B coaching licence, will work closely with Brian Ssenyondo, who remains in charge of the U-17 side as they prepare for next month’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.
Kingston brings with him a wealth of experience in youth development, having managed Ghana’s U-17 team for two years, guiding them to the WAFU B U-17 Cup of Nations on home soil. He also previously worked with RPS Academies in the United States, focusing on player growth and elite performance.
His appointment is seen as part of FUFA’s long-term strategy to strengthen Uganda’s youth football pipeline and elevate the nation’s competitiveness at the continental and global levels.
For Kingston, the move represents a fresh opportunity to continue shaping African football’s next generation, this time, beyond Ghana’s borders.
