Labourer jailed for stealing cocoa beans

A 36-year-old farm labourer, Grushi Adua, who stole two bags of cocoa, costing GH¢400 was sentenced to a fine of GH¢600 or in default three months imprisonment with hard labour by the Suhum Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs Comfort Sarpong.

The accused person charged with stealing, pleaded guilty with explanation but his explanation was not accepted by the court.

According to the prosecution Detective Inspector, Eric Yeboah, the complainant, one Tetteh Wayo and the accused stay in the same house.

He said the complainant dried his two bags of cocoa beans and was detected the next day, he detected that someone had stolen the cocoa.

He said the complainant therefore started his own investigation and had information that, the accused person had stolen the cocoa beans.

Later when the accused’s house was searched, the two bags of cocoa beans were found.

A report was made to the police and the accused person was arrested and charged with the offence.
