Accra April 15, GNA – Labone Secondary School in the Greater Accra Region has been linked to Roosevelt High school in Chicago through a cultural programme dubbed: ” The Ananse Project”.
The project involved students of both schools filming parts of their cultural activities in the community to be shared on a web page for the students to read and learn about the various cultures.
Ms Joan Clarke, American project Director, at the video screening programme to mark the end of the first phase of the project, expressed happiness about the level of aptitude, hard work and commitment the Labone students demonstrated.
The films included Kente weaving, Woodcarving, Ghanaian fashion designing and Fishing.
She said, “The Ananse Project is a link between future leaders of the two cultures, giving the youth a voice for their communities”. Ms Clarke announced that in May this year, students in Chicago, USA would complete their filming programme after which, the Ghanaian and American students would engage in a one-week internet chat about the videos.
She said the students’ had gain valuable high-level technology training while developing creative problem-solving skills. Mr Maxwell Appiah-Twum, a teacher at Labone Secondary School in charge of the programme said the students had learnt a lot about filming and video editing. He said there would be exchange programmes to bring students from both schools closer.
