La Schools to get sponsorships from FDCG

Accra, June 11, GNA – The Foundation for Deprived Children Ghana (FDCG), a local NGO with support from a charity organisation in the USA is to provide sponsorship for needy and deprived pupils in some selected schools in La.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr Foster Gish the Executive Director of the FDC said the foundation’s initiative was based on careful observation within the La community, which revealed that some parents go through hard times to keep their wards in schools. He said in spite of the introduction of the Capitation Grant that gives free compulsory basic education, some parents could not afford to adequately provide or cater for their children needs such as provision of learning materials and food.

Mr Gish made these observations when the Foundation presented educational materials and some assorted items worth over 300 dollars to two schools in the La community last Friday. The items, which included, exercise and textbooks, pencils and crayons, storybooks, shoes and candies went to the La Anteson Catholic Primary, and God is Great Day Care Centre. Mr Gish said FDCG together with the charity organisation in US would mobilise resources to begin the programme by the third quarter of this year.

Mrs Agnes Cleffa, the Headmistress of the LA Anteson Primary expressed the school’s gratitude to the foundation and confirmed that some parents do very little to seeing to their children’s welfare before leaving for school.

“It look as if most of them don’t spend enough time for their children, so you see some pupils coming to schools without foot wares with dirty uniforms,” she said. On her part, Mrs Clara Sogli of the God is Great Day Care Centre was full of praise to the FDCG and said the assistance would be put to good use to help the children in their educational development.
