Kweku Baako Drags “Democrat” To Media Commission

The Editor in Chief of the Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr, has lodged a complaint at the National Reconciliation Commission (NMC) against the National Democrat newspaper for what he described as “disparaging remarks, untrue and libelous statements about my person and family”.

Kweku Baako’s complaint as contained in a letter dated August 26th 2003 to the NMC is produced verbatim below.

“In issue number 12, August 18-Sunday, August 24, 2003, it alleged that I raped a young girl and that I had to be rushed to the mental hospital by ex-President Jerry Rawlings because I had smoked “wee” (Marijuana). This article on the front page was a commentary headed ‘WE ARE READY, KWEKU BAAKO’.

In the next issue, number 13, August 31, 2003, there was another front page story, ‘KWEKU BAAKO JNR STRIPS HIMSELF NAKED IN PUBLIC’. It also alleged that I had admitted I was a rapist. It also alleged that I had admitted that I named the child born out of the alleged rape.

I want the National Media Commission (NMC) to let the newspaper and its editor prove those allegations. I categorically deny those allegations.

Please find enclosed, copies of the offending articles. I trust in the ability of the NMC to do a thorough job in the matter”.
