Kwahu West Municipal Assembly set to exceed IGF

Nkawkaw, Aug 23, GNA – The Kwahu-West Municipal Assembly has realized GH¢324,422 of its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) representing 72 per cent of the projected revenue of GH¢453,439.36.

The Municipal Chief Executive, (MCE) Mr Alex Somuah-Obeng, announced this when he addressed the second meeting of the fourth session of the Assembly, at Nkawkaw.

The IGF is generated from rates, tolls, licenses and other taxes to supplement the Assembly’s share of the common fund to finance development projects in the various communities and administrative expenses of the Assembly.

He said the Assembly had been allocated GH¢590,000 from the District Development Fund (DDF) to finance a number of projects after being assessed under the Functional Organization Assessment Tool, (FOAT) last year.

Under the Youth in Agricultural programme, the MCE said 37 people had jointly cultivated 81 acres of rice at Asubone Rails and Ekawso area, while 100 acres of maize had been cultivated by 63 people at Kofi Dede to enhance food production in the community.

He said under the afforestation programme, various species of tree seedlings had been cultivated on a 140 hectare-land at Kwahu-Dae and Bredane, which had offered employment to a total of 400 youth.

He, therefore, appeal to chiefs and land owners to release more land to expand the programme.

The presiding member of the Assembly, Mr Agyenim Boateng, appealed to the assembly members to organize communal labour to desilt choked drains and gutters to avoid the recent floods, which affected some communities in the municipality.

He appealed to the Government to pay a well deserved ex-gratia package for members of the Assembly who had served the Assembly for four years.
