Kwabena Agyepong vows to pursue anti Akufo-Addo agenda if…

Kwabena Agyepong, the failed presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2008 and once sacked Presidential Spokesperson for ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor, is vowing to pursue a pro-Ashanti agenda if voted General Secretary of the NPP.

Kwabena Agyepong, who is of the Asante stock of the party, is reported to have made this pledge when he met some die-hard supporters of the Asante caucus during the Christmas holidays.

Speaking to The Informer from Kumasi, a key member of the Asante caucus of the NPP (name withheld) said, Kwabena Agyepong promises not to disappoint Asantes if he becomes General Secretary.

According to the insider, Kwabena Agyepong referred to the incumbent General Secretary, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (Sir John) as an Asante “traitor” who supports Akufo-Addo (an Akyem) instead of supporting Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, who is an Ashanti.

“I promise you that I will support Kufuor, Mpiani, and the Asante caucus to replace Nana Addo with Alan Cash,” Agyepong is reported to have said.

According to the source, Kwabena Agyepong stated that the NPP belongs to the Ashanti Region, and so, will ensure that an Asante becomes its flagbearer.

It would be recalled that Kwabena Agyepong last year took a swipe at Sir John for being the wrong person to be General Secretary of the NPP.

“Kwabena is being pushed by the Asante caucus, hence his anti Akufo-Addo antics,” the insider intimated.

Apparently, Kwabena Agyepong’s presence during the Election Petition hearing was pure “hanya”.
