Kufuor not ‘coronating’ me as NPP flagbearer – Alan

Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyeremanten, has rebuffed claims that former President John Kufuor has, since 2007, attempted ‘coronating’ him as flagbearer of the of New Patriotic Party.

“…It has nothing to do with President Kufuor trying to bestow or have a coronation process for me right from the beginning, now or for the future,” Kyeremanten told Paul Adom Otchere on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana programme on Tuesday. Mr Kyeremanten, who is rumoured to be former President Kufuor’s protégé and allegedly had the tacit support of his mentor in his twice-failed flagbearer aspirations against two-time flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, wondered during the interview, why his opponents keep tying him to Mr Kufuor’s apron strings.

“What is this massive support?” He asked.

“You see, part of the problem we have in this country is that people make statements [and] do analyses that have absolutely no foundation,” he observed.

Mr Kyeremanten is seeking to take the baton from Nana Akufo-Addo as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2016 general elections. He recently said the overhauling of the party’s national leadership was indicative of the change ahead.
