Accra, Sept. 8, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor left Accra on Wednesday for Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, to attend the Extraordinary Summit of the African Union on Unemployment and Poverty Alleviation. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senior Officials at the Presidency accompanied him.
In a pre-departure briefing, Mr Kwabena Agyepong, Presidential Spokesperson, told Journalists that the decision to hold the Summit was taken at the Second Ordinary Session of African Union in Maputo in 2002.
He said the Summit would provide a platform for consultation and dialogue and the commitment of Africa leaders to eradicate poverty. Mr Agyepong said various meetings between social partners and committees of experts were preceding the Summit.
Nana Owusu Nsiah, Inspector General of Police, was at the Airport to see off the President.
The President is expected back later in the day.
