Korean Ambassador hands over library to community

Madam Young Shin Dho, the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, has handed over a library stocked with assorted books to the Odorkor ‘4’ and ‘5’ Junior High Schools in Greater Accra Region.

She said the library was constructed following a request made by Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, to support the community to ensure quality education.

It was funded by Step International Organisation, a non-governmental organisation, based in United States.

Madam Dho observed that education played an important role in every nation, hence the launch of the library project.

She tasked the school authorities to take good care of the facility and advised the students to visit the library to improve upon their reading.

Mrs Ofosu-Agyare, who inaugurated the library on behalf of the Accra Metropolitan Education Directorate, commended the NGO for the gesture.

She charged community members to take good care of the facility to encourage the donors to do more.

She also tasked students to seriously put the library to good use by making reading a habit to enhance their knowledge.

Mr. Kwesi Heartfield, the Accra Metropolitan Director of Education, said education remained the best legacy one could acquire to meet future challenges and, therefore, urged parents to be interested in their children’s education.

Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the AMA was committed to improving educational structures in all communities to enhance quality teaching and learning.

“Let this library facility add to the development of education in the schools and the community,” he said, and urged the authorities to continue to work hard to sustain the project.
