Kokompe spare parts dealers distance themselves from Mahama’s ‘hooting’ incidence

The leadership of Darkuman Kokompe Spare Parts Dealers Association in Accra has dissociated itself from some traders who taunted President John Mahama with change slogan on Monday.

The president was on his way to a rally in the Ablekuma North constituency when a group of hostile traders mounted a strong opposition to his re-election bid, shouting we want change.

President Mahama was on a campaign tour of the Greater Accra region ahead of the December general elections.

The action captured on video which has gone viral on social media has generated heated debate with some suggesting that Kokompe is an NPP stronghold and the reaction was expected, while others suggest the reaction of the artisans is an indication that Mr. Mahama will lose the December polls.

But speaking in an interview with Onua News, the Chairman of Kokompe Spare Parts Dealers Association, Nicholas Agbeyome indicated that, the leadership was given earlier notice of the President’s visit so they were ready and fully prepared to welcome him.

He asserted that, they had no hand in what transpired last Monday and said on authority that their members were not part of those who mocked the president. Mr. Agbeyome also debunked rumors that they were incited and motivated by a political party to humiliate the President.

However, the chairman Mr. Agbeyome apologised with the President and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the unfortunate incident. He noted that the association will on Monday, 17th October 2016 hold a press conference to distance itself from that incident.
