Kofi Wayo Dumps NPP?

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in the 2000 parliamentary election in the Ayawaso East Constituency, Chuck Kofi Wayo says he is planning to either form his own party or join the People’s National Convention (PNC). The Heritage newspaper today reported that Wayo has finally decided to quit the NPP to join the PNC led by Dr. Edward Mahama.

According to the paper, Kofi Wayo, a.k.a. Nima Boy, who has been the severest critic of his own party since it assumed power in 2000, has shelved his earlier plan of forming a new party to team up with Dr. Mahama, who he reportedly admires so much.

But in an interview with JOY FM, Wayo said he was still considering the two options. ”It is possible that I might either form a party myself or join the PNC, it’s possible, yes”, he noted.

Wayo said he has decided to break away from the NPP because the party has failed the people and has worsened the suffering of Ghanaians.

”We blamed the NDC that they’ve taken IMF, World Bank conditionalities and then we go to do the same, so we have no chance of bringing anything good to our people. The people are suffering the same suffering – even worse since we came to power”.

Wayo has not informed the NPP about his decision because he is yet to take a final decision. He intends to join the PNC if he doesn’t form his own party because Dr Mahama, the PNC Leader has ”maintained his concern for Ghana over the years”. Wayo believes that if the PNC comes to power it will dump the IMF and use the country’s own resources to improve the living standards of the people.
