KMA takes delivery of sanitation kits to clean city

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has taken delivery of sanitation kits valued at about GH¢10,000 to boost its drive to keep the city clean.

These included 50 pieces of rake, 40 shovels, 200 pieces of hand gloves, 40 pairs of wellington boots and equal number of reflector jackets, 20 wheelbarrows, 175 nose masks and large quantity of brooms.

It was a donation by the Ashanti Regional Office of the Access Bank.

Mr. Richard Torku, the Regional Manager, said this was their contribution towards efforts at improving waste management in the metropolis to improve the health of the people.

He underlined the determination of the bank to stand with the assembly every step of the way to rid Kumasi of filth and restore it to its past glory as the Garden City of West Africa.

It was on the basis of this that it provided support to the KMA during its tree-planting exercise, last year.

Mr. Kojo Bonsu, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said they were grateful to the bank for the gesture and invited other cooperate bodies and institutions to join the assembly in its push to make things better.

He acknowledged that waste management was a major challenge and urged active private sector involvement to tackle it.

Residents should accept to take part in the national sanitation day to tidy up the metropolis, he added.
