KMA signs consultancy contract for upgrading infrastructure

Kumasi, Aug 26, GNA – The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has signed a consultancy contract with ABP Consults for engineering design works for the Community Infrastructure Upgrading Project under the Urban Four, Phase Two programme.

The consultancy contract, meant for the preparation of preliminary and detailed engineering designs and bid documents, is at a cost of 95,964.00 dollars.

An amount of 2.7 million dollars has been allocated for physical implementation of the project after completion of the consultancy works. The contract is for a period of seven months, beginning from September 15 to April 2006.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Kumasi on Thursday Madam Patricia Appiagyei, the Acting Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive said, two communities in the Metropolis namely Old Tafo and Ayigya are to benefit under the programme.

Under the programme roads, drains, street lighting and water supply would be upgraded.

Madam Appiagyei, who is the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, said what was important was not the contract but rather the quality of work to be produced by the consultants for the facilities to stand the test of time.

She appealed to the consultants to not only come out with quality designs but to also work within schedule to facilitate early implementation of the project.
