Kintampo gets cargo drivers’ union

Kintampo, Dec 15, GNA- Mr James Kwabena Bomfeh, Kintampo District Chief Executive, has advised transport associations to co-exist and live in unity.

He deplored the practice by members of some transport unions and associations to fight over passengers and goods, saying as much as the constitution guarantees and freedom of association, every one had the right to belong to any group or association of his or her choice. The DCE was speaking at the inauguration of a branch of the Ghana National Cargo Transport Agencies at Kintampo in Brong-Ahafo. Mr Bomfeh advised members of the new branch to guard against negative practices that could affect peace in the area.

Wherever there is monopoly, there is no efficiency in service delivery, he said and urged the executives of transport bodies to ensure fairness and transparency in their administration.

On behalf of the District Assembly, Mr. Bomfeh presented the branch with a certificate approving of their operation as a recognized transport organisation, autonomous to carry out transport business. He urged the youth in the association to be disciplined, law-abiding and accord passengers due respect.

Mr. Mohammed Abdul Rahamani Soale, the Secretary, mentioned the high cost of spare parts, duty charges on imported vehicles and high cost of vehicle lubricants as the main problems facing the transport sector.
