Afife, Nov. 3, GNA – Mr Anthony K Ahiaba, Registrar of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, has advised kingmakers in the country to follow laid down procedures in the selection and installation of chiefs to avoid conflicts. He noted that non-observance of these procedures partly accounted for chieftaincy conflicts which tended to hamper peace, development and unity in many traditional areas. Mr. Ahiaba was speaking at the launch of the 10th anniversary celebration of the installation of Togbe Awusu III, a sub-chief of Afife in the Ketu North District.
He said chieftaincy disputes were a major headache to the House of Chiefs and government and expressed the hope that traditional leaders would do their best to prevent such conflicts. Mr. Ahiaba commended the people of Afife for maintaining peace and unity. Mr. Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister said it would be difficult for government and development partners to initiate projects in conflict areas. Togbe Awusu, who is also Ketu-North District Chief Executive, said in the past 10 years he successfully settled about 200 disputes among people and communities and restored unity to families and communities hitherto divided by such disputes. 3 Nov 08
