Kindergarten pupils in parade

Takoradi, March 6, GNA – Mrs Rebecca Efiba Dadzie, the Western Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has appealed to parents, community leaders, chiefs and other stakeholders in education, to encourage the enrolment of children in pre-school for their proper development. She said kindergarten has been identified as the foundation for the training of children and has become an essential component in educational system.

Mrs Dadzie said these at the 52nd Independence Anniversary parade for 50 kindergarten schools within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on Thursday. “The day is to instil a sense of patriotism, dedication to the cause of freedom as a heritage handed to us by the first President of our nation, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah,” she added. Mrs. Dadzie noted that the performance of these school children was an indication that the educational system, in spite of its several challenges, still held the key to the future development of the Ghanaian child. “We see hope in these children, we see a bright future and a prosperous Ghana in these children here”, she said. She said in spite of the hope that the GES have in the kindergarten schools, there remained some challenges such as unqualified teachers.

She urged these teachers to undertake professional courses to upgrade their competencies. She appealed to stakeholders in education, corporate institutions as well as individuals, to help improve the poor conditions under which some kindergartens, run, including unsanitary conditions. The Children were smartly dressed in military uniforms, school uniforms and marched past the dais amidst drumming, dancing, and cultural displays.
