Kim Lars Bjorkegren Announce Black Queens Squad for WAFCON Qualifiers Against Egypt

The Black Queens have unveiled their squad for the final round of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualifiers, as Ghana prepares for a crucial two-legged clash against Egypt.

Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren announced a 24-woman squad on Thursday, 16 October, aiming to secure Ghana’s place at next year’s tournament in Morocco.

Two exciting new names have been added to the squad: former Black Princesses duo Sharon Sampson and Helen Alormenu.

Sampson, who plays for Swedish side Piteå IF, returns to the national setup after her last appearance at the 2023 U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica.
Alormenu, a standout performer at Texas State University in the USA, has earned her first senior call-up and will be eager to impress on the big stage.

The squad remains largely consistent with the team that represented Ghana at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, with captain Portia Boakye once again leading the group.

Coach Bjorkegren has also retained his trusted trio of goalkeepers: Cynthia Konlan, Kerrie McCarthy, and Afi Amenyeku.

Ghana will face Egypt in a home-and-away tie, with qualification to the continent’s biggest women’s football tournament on the line.

The Black Queens, who are determined to return to the top of African women’s football, will be banking on a blend of experience and fresh talent to get the job done.
