KATH denies it has run out of blood

Kumasi, Feb 23, GNA – Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) had denie= d media reports that the facility’s blood bank had run out of blood. They insisted that there was enough blood in stock to meet the needs of patients, requiring blood transfusion at the hospital. A statement signed by Mr Kwame Frimpong, the Public Relations Officer, in Kumasi in reaction to the Daily Graphic’s publication of Tuesday, February 22, headlined 93Blood Shortage at KATH” said the news report wa= s incorrect and regrettable.

“All the cold storage facilities at the blood bank of the hospital ar= e full at the moment and it is regrettable that a miscommunication has create= d an impression to the contrary.”

The statement said the hospital’s Transfusion Medicine Unit, overseei= ng the blood bank, has two mobile teams which go out on blood donation campaigns to get the public to voluntarily donate blood. These campaigns had been critical in ensuring adequate levels of blood stock at the facility, it added. The statement encouraged members of the public to continue to donate blood to the hospital on regular basis.
