Kumasi, Aug 10, GNA – Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the Chief Executive of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, said on Wednesday that the hospital believes in the integration of the West African sub-region.
To this end, he said, the hospital does not plan for only Ghanaians but takes on board communities and peoples in the sub-region. Dr Nsiah-Asare said this when he briefed a delegation from Central Northern Region of Burkina Faso who visited the hospital on Monday. He told the delegation, led by Madam Fatimata Legma, the Regional Minister, that he was optimistic the visit would open the way for the two countries to work together to provide quality health delivery to their people.
Dr Nsiah-Asare suggested an exchange programme between KATH and the Health Ministry of Burkina Faso for their health personnel as another step in the regional co-operation programme. Mr Sylvain Dipama, the Central Northern Regional Director of Health Services, said the health ministry was building a new hospital and would take advantage of the assurance from KATH to improve upon health services in his country.
Madam Legma commended the authorities of KATH for opening their doors to the delegation and the efforts they are making to provide health services for the people in the sub-region. The delegation also visited the kente-weaving town of Bonwire where a durbar was held in their honour.
