Katamanso, Aug. 26, GNA – The Katamanso Divisional Council on Saturday held a durbar to launch the Katamanso Tourism Development Plan and Education Fund.
The durbar saw the installation of the Reverend Dr Jeremiah Wright of the United Church of Christ in Philadelphia, United States, as Nkosouo Mantse. His stool name is Nii Afotey Obla.
Under the plan, to be factored into the National Development Plan, the key pillar would be the creation of an investors’ enclave that would be reserved for persons resident outside Ghana, who wished to settle in Ghana to invest.
To this end the planners have decided to set aside land for African Americans wishing to settle at Katamanso so that they could contribute their quota towards the realisation of the town’s development agenda. Nii Otu Akwete 1X, Katamanso Mantse, said the setting up the education fund had become necessary because many citizens could not afford the high school fees.
”Katamanso needs good drinking water, electricity and accessible roads, he said, adding, “we will succeed if we put our shoulders to the wheel”.
Mr Kwabena Asante-Donkor, Deputy Managing Director Ghana Tourism Company, said tourism earns the country more than 400 million dollars in foreign exchange a year and creates employment for 150,000 people. He said Katamanso could become a one-stop tourism centre taking into account its culture, ethnic diversity and other natural endowments. 26 Aug. 03
