Kasoa (C/R), May 12, GNA – The Kasoa District Police Command has expressed concern about the increasing cases of criminal abortions in the area and appealed to health authorities and chemical sellers to help stop the practice. The Kasoa District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jordan Quaye, said in a statement in Kasoa that between October 2008 and April this year, 11 criminal abortion cases had been reported to the police.
Mr Quaye said in most cases the criminal abortions took place in certain hospitals, clinics and in the houses of some health personnel. He said information reaching the police indicates that some unqualified chemical sellers at Kasoa prescribed dangerous drugs for causing criminal abortion to teenage girls. The Kasoa District police appealed to the public to report all suspected criminal abortion cases to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit DOVVSU) for prompt action.
