Winneba, Jan. 4, GNA – Work on the lorry park and fencing of the new Kasoa market, which constitutes the final stages of the more than four billion cedis project has resumed.
This followed part payment of the 200 million cedis compensation by the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly to chiefs of Ofaankor, near Kasoa, custodians of the 64.9 acres land on which the project is situated.
Capt. Steve Kwamena Armah (rtd), District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, who announced this at the last sitting of the assembly at Winneba last Wednesday, said with the resumption of work it is hoped that the new market would be commissioned before the end April, this year.
Capt. Armah said, 100 million cedis out of the 200 million cedis compensation, which the assembly agreed to pay to owners of the land had already been settled, hence the resumption of work on the lorry park and
the wall, which were stalled following a high court in junction placed on the project, in the middle of the just ended year.
He called for cooperation of the people and assembly members as well as heads of decentralised departments and corporation in the district to speed up the development of the district.
Capt. Armah charged members of the House to help ensure absolute peace and stability in the district during the forthcoming general elections later in the year to sustain the country’s democracy. Mr Kwasi Esseku, the Presiding Member of the assembly, expressed concern about the poor performance of some road contractors currently executing work on the Awutu-Offadaa-Fianko, Osaekrodua-Ayiresu feeder roads, and Senya-Beraku town roads.
Mr Esseku’s sentiment was shared by the 62 members who attended the meeting, who unanimously called on the government to review the contracts of those involved, in order to ensure quality work, since funds being spent on the three projects come from the tax payers pocket. Mr Esseku charged members of the assembly to team up with revenue collectors of the assembly to mobilise higher revenue this year for the implementation of more development projects in deprived communities in the district.
