Kadjebi outlines programme to mark World AIDS Day

Kadjebi (V/R), Nov. 30, GNA – The Committee in charge of HIV/AIDS programme in the Kadjebi District has outlined activities to mark World AIDS Day, which is celebrated every December 1. Activities lined up for the week-long celebration include public voluntary counselling and testing at Kadjebi, quiz competition among four junior secondary schools, as well as HIV/AIDS lectures and film shows.

Launching the celebration, Mr. Vitalist Suzagl, district HIV/AIDS Focal Person, urged the public to help control the spread of the disease, adding that this could be achieved with a promise by everybody to abstain from casual sex.

Mr Suzagl who is also the Kadjebi District Deputy Co-ordinating Director, advised people living with the virus to stick to a balanced diet and also exercise their bodies always in order to live longer. Mrs Christine Boimah, Executive Director of ‘Pillar of Change For the Care of Women and Children’, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based at Kadjebi, advised the youth, especially students, to abstain from casual sex or use condom when necessary. Mr H.P. Kampewu, chairman of an HIV/AIDS management project based at Kadjebi, said 110 people tested positive of the disease at the local St. Theresa’s Hospital between 2004 and 2005 out of which 20 people died.

Mr Kampewu advised employers not to refuse to employ people living with the disease, neither should school heads refuse to admit such people into their schools.
