Kade, Dec. 28, GNA 96 Members of Kade Concerned Citizens Association have renovated the Maternity Ward of the Kade Health Centre at an estimated cost of 125 million cedis. It included re-roofing and tiling of the floor. The association made up of Kade citizens resident in Accra and Tema adopted the ward a year ago and had donated seven hospital beds with mattresses, five wheel chairs, a television set and hospital equipments estimated at about 25 million cedis to the ward.
Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive in a speech read on his behalf at the handing over of the renovated ward said renovation of the ward would improve safe deliveries at the centre. He said healthy people made a health nation and commended the association for their gesture to supplement government efforts to improve health care delivery for the people. Madam Susana Mensah, Eastern Regional Deputy Minister, lauded the association for their selfless spirit to uplift the image of Kade. She called on Ghanaians to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to benefit from affordable health care. Madam Mensah announced that a three billion-cedi girls’ dormitory block for the Kade Secondary-Technical School promised by President John Agyekum Kufuor had been placed on tender.
Dr Patrick Amo-Mensah, Kwaebibirem District Director of Health Services said the maternity unit had about three deliveries a day with a daily out-patient department attendance of 40 to 60 people. He called for the upgrading of the health centre to a hospital status in view of the increasing number of patients visiting the facility daily due to the NHIS. The District Director of Health Services said averagely, 150 patients were attended to daily and about 4,600 patients monthly. Barima Agyare Tenadu II Kadehene, commended the association for their assistance to help improve conditions at Kade and was optimistic other citizens would join them in the efforts to develop Kade.
