Junior Clubs inaugurated at Nkoranza

Nkoranza (B/A), Dec 21, GNA – Junior Clubs of the Forum of African Women Educationalists (FAWE) formed at Bonsu and Akuma in the Nkoranza Education District have jointly been inaugurated at Nkoranza.

The programme coincided with the 10th Anniversary Celebration of FAWE, Ghana Chapter at Nkoranza on Thursday, under the theme: “Sending out ripples in support of the education of girls and women for development”

Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkoranza, who inaugurated the clubs, commended the founders of the Ghana Chapter of FAWE for their efforts in promoting the education of girls to facilitate national development.

He re-echoed President John Agyekum Kuffour’s concern for the development of women and said the creation of the Ministry of women and Children’s Affairs and the Ministry of Basic and Girl Child Education were clear indications that the government was committed to the welfare of women.

Mr Ampofo-Twumasi urged members of the junior clubs to learn hard to enable them to acquire higher qualification and skills needed for national development.

He also advised the youth against sexual promiscuity, drug abuse, prostitution and armed robbery that negatively affected their development.

The District Director of Education, Mr Jarvis R. Agyeman-Badu commended FAWE for assisting two Senior Secondary Schools girls in the district to enable them to complete their education.

Mr John Kofi Amoah, a Focal Contact Person for the Nkoranza District FAWE said membership of FAWE junior clubs in the district has increased tremendously.

Nana Okatakyie Agyeman-Kudom IV, Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, who expressed worry about the shirking of responsibilities by some parents resulting in teenage pregnancy, child labour and street children among other problems.

He, therefore, called on parents to give proper training to their children so that they could grow into responsible citizens.
