Tamale, Oct 03, GNA – The Japanese Embassy in Ghana, in collaboration with Living Water’s Community Rural Aid an NGO, has built a six unit junior secondary school classroom block at a cost of 423.4 million cedis for the Nyohini Presbyterian school in Tamale. The block comprises of an office, a library, a staff common room and a storeroom.
A rainstorm destroyed the old school block last year compelling the students to sit under sheds and trees to have their lessons. Mr Masamichi Ishikawa, the Japanese Ambassador in Ghana, expressed the hope that the facility would provide a suitable environment for the 360 pupils and 12 teachers to enable them carry out effective teaching and learning.
Mr Ishikawa was visiting the Northern Region to inspect projects initiated by the Japanese Embassy.
Mr Agyei-Sarpong Kingsely, the Executive Director of Living Water’s community Rural Aid, said the provision of the facility had helped to improve academic performance in the school, resulting in one of its students excelling with aggregate eight in last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). He commended the Japanese government for its assistance and appealed for further help to provide more facilities to the school to enhance teaching and learning.
Mr Kingsely also praised the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the school for its support and contribution towards the successful completion of the project.
