Renowned filmmaker Ivan Quashigah has been appointed as the new chair of the National Film Authority (NFA) governing board, tasked with steering a fresh agenda to transform Ghana’s film and audiovisual industry.
The new board, inaugurated by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, on Monday, August 4, in Accra, is expected to lead critical reforms that will enhance professionalism, attract investment, and position Ghanaian film content on the international stage.
In her remarks, the Minister urged the board to prioritise global collaboration while remaining anchored in Ghana’s cultural identity. “This is a significant responsibility, and I challenge you to maintain high levels of professionalism, deepen partnerships, and make Ghana a destination for film investment,” she said.
Other members of the board include industry stakeholders such as Kafui Danku Pitcher, Oladele Kwaku Aribike, Mabel Cudjoe, Emmanuel Ofori, Dr. Rebecca Ohene-Asah, Augustine Abbey, George Bosompem, Aseye Tamakloe, Zakaria Abdulai, Rukiyatu Naa Ayikaley Ankrah, and Alejandro Peterson Davids White-Cross.
The NFA, established under the Film Act, is mandated to regulate, promote, and support the development of Ghana’s film sector. The appointment of a new board signals renewed political and institutional support for the country’s creative economy, which has long called for consistent policy, adequate funding, and modern infrastructure.
With Ivan Quashigah at the helm—whose work spans decades in television and film—stakeholders are hopeful that the board’s leadership will bridge the gap between policy and practice, creating more opportunities for local creatives.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enabling a vibrant film industry, describing the board’s inauguration as a “turning point” for the sector’s transformation.
