It is unbiblical for Christians to shy away from politics- Rev. Deegbe

Ho, Aug. 25, GNA – The Rev. Dr. Fred Deegbe, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, has noted that it was unbiblical for Christians to shy away from issues of good governance.

He said the active engagement of Christians in politics was not ungodly, since the Bible was emphatic on the need for responsible governance.

Rev. Dr Deegbe was speaking at the opening session of the 10th Plenary Assembly of the Association of Episcopal Conferences of Anglophone West Africa (AECAWA), in Ho, on the theme: “Good Governance in West Africa: The Role of the Church”.

“Christians must try to understand the task of government as we seek to follow biblical directives in diverse, and often pluralistic societies,” Rev. Dr. Deegbe said.

He said Christians, must not expect only political solutions to problems like HIV/AIDS, pornography, homosexuality, environmental degradation, sexual inequality and low wages. Rev. Dr Deegbe said politics was all about the task of managing public life.

Over 70 Bishops from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and the Gambia and Liberia are attending the Conference.
